General Policy &
Instructions for Applicants

The purpose of the William H. Dunlap Orphanage, Inc. ("Dunlap") as set forth in its charter is to provide care, support, maintenance, and education of orphaned, or fatherless, or helpless, or needy children, and to support projects related to such children. As an agency of the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church, Dunlap looks first to meeting the needs of such children within the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church, but it also understands its ministry to extend beyond denominational borders. All projects (purpose for which grants are approved) must generally relate to Associate Reformed Presbyterian purposes.
Dunlap will happily consider any proposal that offers the opportunity to meet the needs of orphaned, or fatherless, or helpless, or needy children, subject to the attached guidelines.
The Board's procedure for considering proposals, except for those governed by formal agreement, is as follows:

  1. Proposals will be considered on an annual basis.

  2. To be considered, eighteen (18) copies of the "William H. Dunlap Application for Grant" (with supporting documentation) must be postmarked or received not later than October 1. Please include in the supporting documentation your response to the following specific items:

    1. Indicate how your organization is providing "comprehensive physical, educational, emotional, and spiritual care in a Christian environment for a child or children when the parent or parents are unable to do so."
    2. The identification of government support should indicate the type of support and, if monetary, include the amount in dollars and as a percentage of total support. Provide a statement of restrictions or limitations on your ministry (if any) associated with the governmental support.
    3. If Associate Reformed Presbyterians are involved in your ministry provide details as appropriate.
    4. If the grant request is for other than general support indicate
      1. The particular project for which funding is requested;
      2. The need, purpose, and time period of the project;
      3. The immediate and long-range results expected from the project;
      4. A budget identifying both the projected income sources and expenses for the project;
        and
      5. The significance of Dunlap funding for the project.
    5. Inasmuch as funding from the William H. Dunlap Fund may be limited in amount and in time, indicate your plans for funding apart from the William H. Dunlap Fund.
  3. The William H. Dunlap Board will meet in the fall to determine the projects to be supported. The funds granted to the applicant will become available during the following calendar year. All applicants will receive notification of the decision of the Dunlap Board.
