Term of Service: Six Years
Stated Meetings: Semi-Annual (February, September)
Purpose: The Board of Christian Education Ministries is the agency authorized by the General Synod of the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church to plan, organize, administer and promote the teaching ministry of God in Christ by the power of the Holy Spirit and through the General Synod. The Board ministers in relation to the Presbyteries and congregations and in cooperation with the other Boards and Committees of the Synod.
Personal Qualifications: Each member of the Board of Christian Education Ministries should be a person of deep Christian commitment, an active member of a congregation or presbytery, and one whose doctrinal positions are in conformity with the positions of the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church. Each Board member should be willing and able to attend Board meetings and to make such preparations for Board meetings as are necessary. Each Board member should be able to work in harmony with other members of the Board and with the staff of the Office of Christian Education Ministries in keeping with the purpose of the Board.
Each Board member should have a specific knowledge of and interest in Christian education that qualifies him or her to serve on this Board. Each Board member should have training and experience in the teaching ministry of the Church. In appointing Board members, efforts should be made to secure members who have special interests in one of the following areas of the Christian education ministry:
- Youth work
- Budgeting
- Family ministries
- Conference ministries
- Curriculum concerns
- Staff concerns
Denominational Commitment: Each member of the Board of Christian Education Ministries should be deeply committed to the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church-its doctrinal positions, its traditions, its ministries and agencies, and its institutions.
Personal Commitment: Each member should have a special interest in the work of Christian education and should be deeply committed to the teaching ministry of the church. Service on the Board of Christian Education Ministries requires a commitment of time and energy in preparing for, attending, and participating in the meetings of the Board of Christian Education Ministries. Each member should also be committed to promoting Christian education in the congregation and-in the case of presbytery representatives-the presbyteries.
Personal Example: Each Board member should set an example by supporting the programs and ministries of the Board of Christian Education Ministries. Promotion of the following are important:
- Conferences
- Curriculum materials
- Special offerings
- Workshops and seminars
- Use of resources
- Teacher and officer training
Special Qualifications: The Board of Christian Education Ministries has a special need for the services of those who have had experience as DCEs, teachers of Christian education on the college or seminary levels, youth workers, business and finance, and curriculum writers. These persons may be active or retired.
